How to Calculate Your Resting Heart Rate

Mio Global, Mio Staff

In a previous post, we took you through how to calculate all your heart rate zones, but in this post, you’ll learn how to calculate your resting heart rate.

RESTING HEART RATE

Here are two methods to calculate your resting heart rate:

Method A

Check your heart rate when you wake up naturally (not by an alarm). While you’re awake, remain lying down for about 5 minutes. Once 5 minutes have passed, check your heart rate by placing two fingers on your pulse, either on the inside of your wrist or your throat. Count your beats per minute.

Method B

With a heart rate monitor, lie down and relax for about 10-15 minutes. Then check the reading on your heart rate monitor.

NOW WHAT?

Now that you’ve found your maximum and resting heart rates, you can start training more effectively and efficiently by choosing which zones you want to train in to reach your fitness goals.
